The Council on Aging’s Discover Program is an interactive learning experience for active adults, 55+, who are interested in an in-depth look at their community. The program seeks to educate, expose and inspire participants to become more actively involved civic and community life. Whether you are a lifelong resident or new to the area, the Discover Program offers a unique look, often behind the scenes, at the vast array of resources, activities and opportunities that make our communities great places to live.
The program takes place over seven days. Each day is guided by one or more themes: Government and Criminal Justice, Education, Health, Culture, History, Economic Development, Neighborhoods, Volunteerism and Community Resources. The experience includes tours, lectures, discussions and hands-on experiences. In addition to gaining a wealth of knowledge, participants discover new opportunities to contribute their time and talents through volunteerism to make a real difference in their communities.
COA is currently exploring partnerships for offering future Discover Nashville and Franklin programs. If your organization is interested in being a partner or sponsor, please contact Grace Smith, COA Executive Director, at 615-353-4235.
Since the first class of Discover Nashville graduated in Fall 2001, several of the 700+ past participants have wanted to reunite with the friends they made and continue to learn new things about the community.
Business Sponsorship Opportunities: We offer the two Business Highlights per day for $300 each to assist with underwriting program expenses. These are excellent opportunities for businesses interested in high touch marketing to seniors. Sponsors are allotted a 15 minute presentation time and are given the exclusive opportunity to provide marketing materials about the company and services/products. If you are interested in more information about being a business sponsor, contact the COA office at 615-353-4235 or email discover@localhost.
The Discover Nashville program would not be possible without the generous support of The Memorial Foundation. The Memorial Foundation has supported the Council on Aging and Discover Nashville for more than 10 years and makes it possible for COA to offer this program to area seniors.
The Discover Franklin Program would not be possible without the support of Jackson National Life Insurance Company. Their compassion for older adults and desire to support the community is commendable.
